From an Antique Past to A Vintage Future

Updated: Jan 23

A New Year.

There’s something magnetic about a blank page. Fresh beginnings. Resolutions to do all the things you’ve wanted to get done, but didn’t. And so, here I go, turning a life-long dream into reality with the help of my 30-something tech-savvy daughter.

The dream? Creating a store that embraces lost and neglected objects from the past; finding them new homes, spaces and appreciation.

Welcome to the dream realized:

The Nested Egg.

My father, Norman

It all started, as most of us do, with my parents.

Norman and Patricia Brown shared a love of history, and the objects and artifacts left behind. Dad, by weekday an English teacher, called himself a “Picker.” On weekends, he loved nothing more than heading off in his vintage 1960s BMW 2002, glove box fully stashed with jelly beans and MilkyWay bars, in search of that hidden vintage treasure. On good days, that treasure was sold at his next stop, for a tidy profit. Nothing made Dad happier.

Mom was the nester, and when they bought an untouched 1790s cape in New Hampshire, their first true antique shop came to be.

Our home was also filled with antiques, and using them each day reminded me of what was before.

As the youngest of three children, I often tagged along on their weekend antique adventures. Mom loved to tell the story of me, at age 6, walking with them into a high-end antique store. The snooty shopkeeper eyed me warily. When I reached out to pick up a lovely blue and white piece of china, she turned two shades of red - until I turned it over and said: “Oh look mommy, Meissen.”

At age 15, I had my own corner “Robyn’s Nest” in the family shop. That corner helped pay my way through college!

My mother and I

After college, I continued collecting, curating, and learning as much as I could about the vintage pieces I felt drawn to. My goal to someday have a brick and mortar shop was strong. This was before this little thing called the internet came along. That changed everything. It opened the doors to broader reaches and realizing more dreams from the past.

My daughter Megan, circa 1997

And so, with the help of my daughter and co-owner, Megan, here is the fruit of that dream. The products and collections you’ll find here are eclectic and span all the generations. We want you to enjoy browsing these carried-through-time treasures. Perhaps they will inspire you as much as they inspire me.

Welcome to The Nested Egg!
